Showcased!

This just totally made my day!  My Halloween card has been showcased on Die Cuttin Divas!!  What an honor!  It's amazing to me how routine making cards can get some times, even though every one of them is so much fun to make the process is usually the same and includes a lot of work.  So it feels great to be recognized for that hard work!

First Christmas Card!

I figured it's about time to get started on Christmas cards!  The weather here in Montreal is definitely turning colder and everyone is getting their car ports up...so I can only assume that winter is coming quickly :)
I wasn't sure if this card would work out in the beginning...the colors just didn't seem like they would go well together.  But once I put it all together, I love it!
It's a pretty simple card.  I cut the trees out using my Cricut Doodlecharms cartridge (that seems to be my favorite right now).  The scalloped bottom was cut using the Holiday Cakes cartridge, but I didn't line it up properly, so I had to hand trim it a bit...so it looks a little goofy...then I added some red 3D paint and glitter along the bottom and on the trees!  The browns look so nice together.  I'm very happy with how this card turned out!

Spooky Treats Card

One last Halloween card!  This is my first attempt at using digital patterned paper! (since my Halloween paper selection is limited).  I'm actually quite happy with the paper!  Yeah, my printer isn't all that great, but I think these papers printed out pretty well.
I used my cricut to cut out the treat bag and the treats from the Doodlecharms cartridge.  The ghost and the dripping frames I cut using some webdings in my Sure Cuts A Lot program.  The sentiment is a digi stamp that I felt went perfect with the treat bag (no one expects a ghost with their treats! :) ).

Announcement and New Card

Wow...it's almost been a week since my last post!  Sorry about that...but I have a good reason!  This week I have been working hard at getting everything organized and posted on Etsy!!  That's right-I started my own etsy.com shop!!  Go check it out!  Shop name is Scrappy Sweet Creations!!
This also means that if you are in need of invitations, cards or scrapbook layouts, send me a message!  I'd love to work with you!  It is definitely a work in progress, but I'm reading tips and getting new ideas every day!

Now onto my card :)
I've still been trying to keep busy even with getting the shop started.  This card is really simple but I still love it!
Everything on here is from the Cricut Tie the Knot cartridge.  What I was playing with was welding together the frames with other border type images to get something new and fun instead of just plan circles and squares.  The white glossy paper shows what the frame originally is shaped like.  So the side pieces are what I welded onto it to give it that extra flair shape.  I think the frame is great!  I really like how the images fit together.
I've been in a wedding mood lately, so I figured I'd make this into a weddingish card with the champagne glasses!
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out my etsy shop!  Scrappy Sweet Creations

To Trick or To Treat

Happy Saturday Everyone!
I have a Halloween card to share with you today!  This card was very fun to make, I was up till midnight last night working on it!  I just couldn't stop!
I started with the backing for the bat/moon scene.  The stripped paper has a piece of vellum placed over top of it to help dull down the boldness of the stripes.  I really like that technique because it still allows me to use my patterned papers, but with the vellum they don't take over the card and overpower the details.
Then I added the moon (which has the edges slightly inked with orange), I cut out thin clouds and some bats in varying sizes from the Cricut cartridge Happy Hauntings.
The sentiment ("To Trick or To Treat, That's the Real Question," Love it!) is a digi stamp that I printed off on white card stock.  I colored in some of the details like the spiders and swirls to help give it a little more pop, rather than it all be black.
The little spider webs are cut with my Martha Stewart punch and inked them with a touch of black.
The green dotted stripe of paper is inked around the edges with orange and black to give it a worn dirty look.
The 4 stars at the top I added some black 3D paint on the top and covered them with clear glitter so they sparkled a little bit but not too much.  The bats also are covered in the black 3D paint to give them a sheen.
Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy Your Birthday! Round Card

I am sharing with you today a round birthday card!  I don't normally do round cards because...well I'm not sure why, but this one was super fun to make!
The sketch I chose to use is from this site: Mojo Monday which I found by doing a Google image search.
I combined several challenge themes to decide the content of my card.  The card base is cut from the Cricut Wild Card cartridge, along with the large red border which is also then embossed using my Swiss Dots folder.
The red scalloped border at the top and the yellow scalloped circle are both cut from the Holiday Cakes cartridge.  I added a yellow/cream colored circle cut from George and Basic Shapes to the yellow scallop circle and then added some detailing with a gold gel pen.
The leaves under the pie are from the Cheerful Seasons cartridge, which I also added gold detailing to before gluing them under the pie.
The pie is cut from the Thanksgiving cartridge.  I cut it out twice and placed the white cutout behind the brown for added dimension and detailing.  The swirls didn't cut out properly on the brown cutout, so I trimmed some of them off and cleaned up a few of the frayed edges before adding it to the white cutout.  I like how it looks on the white.  It helps stand it out a bit more from the yellow background.

Then I just added my ribbon, pearls and sentiment!
This card has been entered into the following challenges:

Gobble Gobble!

Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada.  Feels kind of weird...no friends or family to hang out with, not black Friday shopping in the morning...haven't even celebrated Halloween yet!  But I had a nice calm day with my husband.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I decided to make a holiday appropriate card.
I made the triangle side borders using the Cricut Holiday Cakes cartridge and welded 2 pieces together.  The turkey and sentiment are cut from the Cricut Create a Critter cartridge.  I just love that cartridge!  There are so many cute critters on it and one always seems to fit the theme of any card I want to make!
Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Scarecrow Birthday

Sharing with you today a scarecrow birthday card.  I know, scarecrows aren't really a birthday image, but thought I would give it a shot anyhow.
I used my Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder on the background.  The scarecrow is cut out from the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons Cricut cartridge.  The pumpkins and the frame are both cut out from the Create-A-Critter cartridge.  I put it all together onto a blue card back to help match the blue patches on the scarecrow.

Card Making Weekend!

Hello Everyone and Happy Monday!
Since Saturday was National Card Making Day, I had intended on spending all weekend doing just that...but I wasn't feeling too good and ended up sleeping half the day on Saturday.  But I took advantage of what time I did have and made a few cards.  Both were pretty simple but I still had fun making them.  The first one is just a simple Love card.  I used all white card stock, some thin white ribbon and, on the first one, some white glitter paper.  I liked how this one turned out, but it almost felt like there was too much white.
So I did the same thing for the second card, but used silver glitter paper for the Love instead.  I like them both, I would choose either to make again!
The second card I made this weekend was a birthday card (since I am always in need of those).  It's still pretty simple, but super cute!
I will be absent most of this week as we have family coming into town to stay with us!  But I will be back next week, so check back then!
Much Love,
Emily
